Author Talk: Henry Threadgill + Brent Hayes Edwards

NEA Jazz Master and Pulitzer Prize recipient HENRY THREADGILL is one of the most compelling, adventurous and influential musicians and composers of the last 50 years. The New York Times described him as “perhaps the most important jazz composer of his generation.” We were fortunate to host Threadgill at our first Eric Dolphy festival, for which he composed new works for flute, performed brilliantly with pianist David Virelles.

Across more than 30 records and numerous groundbreaking ensembles, Threadgill has earned the moniker of Genius. His much-lauded 2024  autobiography, Easily Slip into Another World, describes not only his life in music but his service in the Vietnam War and his upbringing in Chicago. We are honored to bring Mr. Threadgill to Montclair for a discussion with his co-author, BRENT HAYES EDWARDS, Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University
